When the team at Cycling Electric hosted their Demo Day event at London’s iconic Herne Hill Velodrome, one trackside setup caused a double-take: a full-sized cargo bike mounted securely to the roof of a car.
Highlighted by Cycling Electric as the world’s first roof-mounted rack engineered for heavy, awkwardly sized cargo bike models, the BikeCarGo Explorer proved that family haulers don't need to be restricted to city bike lanes.
From London Engineering to Yosemite Valley
Designed and manufactured in London by a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, the BikeCarGo system has quickly built a passionate global community. From UK families heading to the coast to American cargo enthusiasts snapping shots of their racks mounted in Yosemite Valley, riders around the world are unlocking new destinations.
How the Y-Frame Pivot System Works
Instead of relying on heavy, automated hydraulic machinery, the BikeCarGo rack uses smart mechanical leverage for a smooth, controlled loading process:
-
Universal T-Track Mount: Fits securely onto standard parallel roof bars equipped with T-tracks.
-
Y-Shaped Folding Frame: The bike is strapped down to a heavy-duty Y-shaped frame while still on the ground.
-
45-Degree Guided Pivot: Working as a two-person team, the front lifter guides the frame through a 45-degree arc from the ground directly onto the roof mount.
Real-World Travel: From the UK to Europe
The inspiration behind BikeCarGo came from direct experience: our founder built the rack out of a personal desire to travel from the UK into Europe via the Eurostar with his family cargo bike and children.
Concerned about car roof weight limits? The system is engineered to handle dynamic road forces effortlessly—and has been extensively real-world tested while mounted alongside loaded roof boxes.
